What is Pickled & Oiled (HRPO) Sheet?
HRPO stands for Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled. It is a Hot Rolled steel sheet that has undergone 'Pickling'—a process where the sheet is passed through an acid solution to strip away the rough black mill scale (oxides) formed during hot rolling. After pickling, a thin layer of oil is applied to the surface to act as a barrier against moisture and rust. HRPO sheets offer better surface quality, improved flatness, and are much easier on fabrication tools like laser nozzles and bending dies compared to standard HR sheets. They provide an excellent base for painting, plating, and powder coating.
