What is GI Sheet? (GI Sheet Full Form and Meaning)
GI Sheet full form is Galvanized Iron Sheet. It is a flat cold-rolled steel sheet coated with a uniform layer of zinc through a hot-dip galvanizing process the sheet is passed through a bath of molten zinc at approximately 450°C. The zinc coating bonds metallurgically to the surface, creating a barrier that prevents rust and oxidation. GI Sheet is also called GP Sheet (Galvanized Plain Sheet) in the Indian market. Both terms refer to the same product a zinc-coated flat sheet manufactured as per Quality. GI Sheet differs from GI Coil only in form: sheets are cut to fixed dimensions (8x4, 8x3, 6x3 feet) while coils are continuous rolls fed into press machines.

Difference Between GI Sheet and CR Sheet
GI Sheet (Galvanized Iron) is a CR sheet with a zinc coating applied via hot-dip galvanizing. The base material is the same cold-rolled steel, but GI carries a zinc layer (Z120/Z180/Z275) that provides built-in corrosion protection no painting or post-treatment needed. CR Sheet (Cold Rolled) has no coating it is bare bright steel with tighter dimensional tolerances and a smoother surface. Choose GI Sheet for outdoor, humid, or corrosive environments roofing, exterior panels, and agricultural structures. Choose CR Sheet for indoor precision parts, deep drawing applications, or components that will receive powder coating, plating, or painting post-fabrication. GI Sheet costs 8 to 12% more than equivalent CR due to the zinc coating.
HSN Code of GI Sheet
HSN code for GI Sheet (Galvanized Iron Plain Sheet) is 72104900 flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, of a width of 600mm or more, plated or coated with zinc, not corrugated. GST rate is 18%. For corrugated GI sheets, HSN code is 72101200 or 72104100 depending on zinc weight. For PPGI (Pre-Painted GI Sheet), HSN code is 72106100. All Aero Enterprises invoices include HSN code and GST breakup.
